MY THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

While integrating psychodynamic, family and cognitive behavioral therapeutic methods, my approach is interactive, supportive and individually tailored. We work together to focus on the change you’d like to make while addressing what has been making it difficult. I strive to balance better understanding of how past experiences and family relationships influence present day behaviors with a practical, problem-solving approach.

BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Haverford College and my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University in Brooklyn.  In 1994 I completed my clinical internship at the Montrose Veteran’s Administration Hospital.  After receiving my doctorate, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship in trauma treatment at McLean Hospital’s Women’s Treatment Program, as well as advanced training in couples and family therapy from the Cambridge Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

In addition to working with adults in individual and couple therapy, I have extensive experience treating college-aged students.  I have worked with undergraduates and graduate students as a Staff Psychologist at the University of Chicago, and I currently treat Bard College students as an off-site private practitioner.

LICENSURE AND TRAINING

Currently, I am licensed as a psychologist in both Massachusetts and New York, and have been in private practice for over 20 years.  I value on-going education and continue to attend professional lectures and classes, as well as regularly consult with other psychologists for expert input.   I am a member of the New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA) and the Western Massachusetts and Albany Association of Psychoanalytic Psychology (WMAAPP) where I was a Board Member-At-Large from 2013 through 2014.
